The New Gate is originally a Light Novel. Also, it has a manga adaptation and it is one of my favorite manga. Recently, I heard that it is going to get an anime adaptation. I got happy that after so much time it is getting an anime adaptation. I had high expectations for it because it is a good manga. I really enjoyed it. But after watching the anime, I was utterly disappointed that the anime isn't even near my expectations.
Story is all over the place...
The story of New Gate is like a high-quality mix of SAO and Overlord. But they have done it beautifully; you will not think it is as another SAO or Overlord. The flow of the story is in order, and it explains every detail you should know.
But when it comes to anime, it is like trash. There is no explanation. All the things happening at the same time. You don't even know what is happening. Also, half of the story in the manga didn't include on anime. The plot has changed drastically. No explanation of who is who. Simply a good story reduced to a trash story.
Characters are like children...
In the manga, the characters look mature enough and have a good way of expressing feelings. In the anime, characters look like some 15-year-olds. Although the voice is okay, character design is going off-road.
Shin - Main character
Shin is the main character of The New Gate story. In the above picture, on the right side is the character design in the manga. Left side is anime character design. As you can see, he looks like a 15-year-old even though he is not.
Schnee - Main heroine
Schnee is the main heroine. She is over 500 years old. In the manga panel, she has a mature look that befitting her age setting. But what about anime? Again like a 15-year-old. Her beautiful character is ruined.
Tiera - An important character
Tiera is an important character that we can see in the story. She is around 150 years old. In elves' lifespan, it is an early age. But the Manga has a very mature look and beautiful character design. Anime has done exactly the opposite.
Animation is also ugly...
When it comes to animation, it didn't fail to disappoint. In fighting just a few sword slashes, jumping, and the fight ends. But in the manga, it is very detailed and looks so much enjoyable. Also, very bad CGI can be seen in the anime. The animation is very similar to some trash isekai animes. I think the studios that made anime have no passion for making this. Very disappointing.
Conclusion: Just like that, one of my favorite manga's anime adaptation has become trash.
